Looking for a provider to connect Sage to URA EFRIS in Uganda? That is what we do, for Sage 50, Pastel, Sage 200 Evolution, Sage 300, Sage X3 and Sage Business Cloud. You keep invoicing in Sage as you do today. Each invoice goes to URA, and its fiscal document number (FDN), verification code and QR code come back to print on the document your customer receives. Nobody re-keys anything into the URA portal.
"Sage" is several different products, and two businesses both on Sage can have little in common underneath. It is the first thing we settle, usually in one phone call.
Desktop, with the company data on a computer or server in your office, and the most common in Uganda. A connector runs beside it, reads invoices as they are posted and writes the URA result back. That computer has to be on when you invoice.
Usually on a database server in your building or a data centre. Invoices are picked up as they are posted, and the fiscal details are written back onto the document so the printed invoice carries them.
Connected over the network, with nothing installed on anyone's desk. Business Cloud is approved once and keeps working; X3 is larger, and its connection is planned with whoever maintains it for you.
URA needs more than the invoice itself. These are sent from Sage and kept in step.
Each invoice is fiscalised with URA as it is raised in Sage, and comes back with its fiscal document number (FDN), verification code and QR code to print.
Raised against the invoice they correct, which is how URA requires them.
Registered with URA through the connection, each with URA's unit of measure and its tax type. Nothing is typed into the URA portal.
Opening stock and later movements are reported, because URA refuses a sale of goods it holds no stock for. Services carry no stock.
A business buyer's TIN goes with the sale, as URA requires for business-to-business invoices.
Standard, zero-rated, exempt and deemed VAT, and excise duty where it applies — each sent as you recorded it.
Connecting the two is the easy part. These are the places where Sage and URA think about a sale differently, and each is settled as part of the setup.
Sage tax types are set up per company, so tax code 1 in your books need not mean what it means next door. URA has one fixed set of tax types. Yours are matched to URA's once, against your actual VAT return.
Sage works out tax with its own rounding, and URA checks the figures again. A cent of difference on a long invoice is refused, so the amounts are reconciled before they are sent.
URA allows each number once for a TIN. Several companies or branches numbering separately in Pastel or Evolution will clash, so numbering is agreed at setup.
You are told why in plain words: URA's own code and message, and what to do about it. You correct it in Sage and it is sent again. Nothing is changed on its way to URA, so your books and URA's records always agree.
Most businesses want the first. Software companies and teams with their own developers usually want the second.

No. Sage needs a connection to EFRIS. Once connected, each invoice is fiscalised with URA and comes back with its fiscal document number, verification code and QR code.
Because Sage tax types are defined per company and URA's are fixed. Your codes are matched to URA's tax types once, against your VAT return, so each invoice reaches URA with the right one.
No. Your items are registered with URA through the connection, each with URA's unit of measure and its tax type. Goods also have their stock reported; services do not.
It depends on which Sage you run and how many companies you connect, so we quote once we know what you have. Most of the time goes into getting your EFRIS environment ready with URA.
