Looking for a provider to connect QuickBooks to URA EFRIS in Uganda? That is what we do, for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. You keep invoicing in QuickBooks as you do today. Each invoice goes to URA, and its fiscal document number (FDN), verification code and QR code come back to print on the document your customer receives. Nobody re-keys anything into the URA portal.
Worth knowing first, because it decides what the setup involves. Both end in the same place.
You approve the connection once on Intuit's own consent screen. No password is stored and nothing is installed on your computers. New invoices are picked up as they are raised, whichever laptop your accountant is on.
The company file is on your own computer or server, so a small connector runs beside it and reads invoices as they are saved. That computer has to be switched on when invoices are raised.
URA needs more than the invoice itself. These are sent from QuickBooks and kept in step.
Each invoice is fiscalised with URA as it is raised in QuickBooks, and comes back with its fiscal document number (FDN), verification code and QR code to print.
Raised against the invoice they correct, which is how URA requires them.
Registered with URA through the connection, each with URA's unit of measure and its tax type. Nothing is typed into the URA portal.
Opening stock and later movements are reported, because URA refuses a sale of goods it holds no stock for. Services carry no stock.
A business buyer's TIN goes with the sale, as URA requires for business-to-business invoices.
Standard, zero-rated, exempt and deemed VAT, and excise duty where it applies — each sent as you recorded it.
Connecting the two is the easy part. These are the places where QuickBooks and URA think about a sale differently, and each is settled as part of the setup.
QuickBooks keeps a discount on the line it reduces. URA wants it as a separate line under that item. The connection sends it the way URA takes it, so you keep discounting as you do now.
Each product is matched to a unit from URA's own list when it is registered, whatever the unit is called in QuickBooks.
URA allows each invoice number once for a TIN, across every branch and till. Two branches numbering separately in QuickBooks will clash, so numbering is agreed at setup.
You are told why in plain words: URA's own code and message, and what to do about it. You correct it in QuickBooks and it is sent again. Nothing is changed on its way to URA, so your books and URA's records always agree.
Most businesses want the first. Software companies and teams with their own developers usually want the second.

No. QuickBooks has no EFRIS feature of its own, so it needs a connection. Once connected, each invoice you raise is fiscalised with URA and comes back with its fiscal document number, verification code and QR code.
Both. Online is approved once through Intuit and nothing is installed. Desktop keeps its company file on your own computer, so a small connector runs beside it, and that computer has to be on when you invoice.
No. You raise invoices as you do now. What changes is that the printed invoice carries the fiscal document number, verification code and QR code URA requires.
No. Your products and services are registered with URA through the connection, each with URA's unit of measure and its tax type. Goods also have their stock reported; services do not.
It depends on whether you run Online or Desktop and how many businesses you connect, so we quote once we know what you have. The connection itself is quick; most of the time goes into getting your EFRIS environment ready with URA.
